Welcome to Dhaniah Wijaya Psychotherapy

Counselling for individuals and couples in-person in Vancouver and virtually across BC.

Dhaniah Wijaya

Hello!

I'm Dhaniah Wijaya, and I'm a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) based in Vancouver. I'm committed to providing a safe, collaborative and insightful space where you can feel seen, supported and encouraged through life's challenges.

I believe in a holistic, client-centred, and strengths-based approach, as well as being an advocate of social justice in the context of the systems that we are part of. My approach is about exploring how past dynamics can co-create your present movement through life and how you would like to reorientate that movement, drawing on the Adlerian philosophy of gemeinschaftsgefühl (social connectedness or social interest) as the core.

I started out with a background in education as a public school teacher at the primary level, working with students and their parents to support students’ education. Since then, I have had more than a decade of experience working and engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds and various stages of life, as an educator, facilitator, coach, and support worker.

My counselling services

I offer individual and couples counselling to neurotypical and neurodiverse clients (e.g. ADHD, autism) to work on issues such as, but not limited to, guilt and shame, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, trauma, communication skills, grief and loss, and disorganisation. Our sessions together would be about collaboratively increasing insight, clarity and encouragement, while also building a customised “menu” of practical resources to help reorient your daily life.

I offer counselling primarily in English, and can also support clients who are more comfortable expressing themselves in Malay or Indonesian. I provide services in-person in Kitsilano, Vancouver or virtually anywhere in BC.

My therapy modalities and influences

Every client is unique, and my aim is, metaphorically, to walk alongside you in your journey and honour your process, while directing a flashlight at parts that can be afforded deeper examination and reflection to support your growth.

My core therapeutic lens is Adlerian psychodynamic therapy, but I also draw upon interventions and tools from other modalities such as trauma-informed approaches, EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing), narrative therapy, parts work, emotion focused therapy (EFT), inner child work, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).

My office and focus on accessibility

In order to make counselling as accessible as possible to my clients, I aim to meet clients where and when they are available.

People looking for in-person counselling are welcome at my cozy office in Kitsilano near Broadway and Granville. In addition, I offer online therapy anywhere in British Columbia.

I am available on evenings and weekends, as well as during the day and during the week, to fit the busy schedules of my clients as conveniently as possible.

Book an appointment

I offer all new clients a first free 20-minute introduction call. This helps us learn more about each other, give you a sense of what it would be like to work with me, and offer you a chance to ask any questions you might have.

To to book a first appointment with me, please fill out the contact form or book a consultation directly through Jane.

My accreditations and associations

As a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) operating in Vancouver and British Columbia, I am part of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).
